How Teachers Can Share Their Own Learning

http://www.edutopia.org/blog/teachers-show-their-own-learning-bob-lenz

I liked this article because I could relate to feeling like my time was wasted and I left feeling like the PD meeting was not clear and concise.   Last week I spent forty five minutes of my only planning of the day waiting and watching a teacher try to figure out why the computers were updating when she should have been presenting to us information about Data using a new program that the county implemented. Needless to say we walked away without any insight on the information we should have been able to gather that and no planning time for a break that day. It is sad it comes down to this and it is necessary now days for us to have training in something as simple as re-delivery.

Teachers: Staying Positive in Trying Times

http://www.edutopia.org/blog/teaching-staying-positive-trying-time-heather-wolpert-gawron

I thought this would be a great article for my followers to read because it provides ways to stay positive when stressed out in the school environment. There have been times when I didn't choose my battles wisely and also times when I knew to shut up. If I only understood it this way then because reacting to stress in the moment only causes more stress. Staying positive as a teacher is difficult to do, but all we can do is figure out the ways in which to remain supportive of those in need and our parents and teachers.

3 Strategies to Promote Independent Thinking in Classrooms

I agree with this article that planning labs, posing questions, and recreating mistakes to further process what went wrong  can help a student better process what is being asked in a group setting. This is similar to what we do in our Wiki group collaborations when answering questions by adding and editing what someone else has already written. I like this form of thinking because it allows mistakes to be made and learning to become easier through team work. Lab work takes the pressure off of the teacher to have all students to complete the lab work and instead they are able to observe what others found and explore their thinking more clearly instead of starting from scratch by building on what someone else's work. These three strategies allows students the opportunity to learn at their own pace.
